A beautiful flower garden in the country is a blooming ball in the air. The most beautiful vertical flower beds with your own hands Make a flower bed in the form of a ball

Not all gardeners and summer residents can boast large plot, most of our fellow citizens own six acres, which barely fit a small garden house and some outbuildings. There is a sorely lack of space for flowers.

And sometimes the owner of the site is a big fan of lawn landscaping, but he does not have time to break large flower beds and devote a lot of time to caring for them. In these cases, it is quite justified to create vertical structures, which are considered one of the most spectacular elements of the landscape design of the personal plot. If you look at the photos of vertical flower beds, the reason for their popularity becomes clear: they delight in originality and variety.

There are several types of such structures. Their choice depends primarily on the preferences of the owner of the site, the presence necessary materials... We must not forget that vertical flower beds should support the overall style of the site. The flowerbed should not be allowed to turn into an independent structure that does not at all fit into the surrounding design.

Types of flower beds

Depending on the method of fastening the structure and its type, vertical flower beds are divided into several types:

  • wall-mounted;
  • terrestrial;
  • suspended;
  • wall.

The general appearance and shape of vertical beds may vary. After all, each of their author, as a rule, is guided by his own imagination.

How to make a vertical flower bed with your own hands?

Such structures are made practically according to the same scheme:

  • the base is being prepared;
  • an irrigation system is created;
  • the soil is laid, which is most often fixed with a mesh;
  • plants are planted.

To prevent the soil from spilling out, you can use anti-erosion geomats, hydroponics, you can use ordinary plastic nets or trellises that provide fixation of the soil, root system and plant seeds. According to the principle of lateral gardening, when plants are planted in a pot not only from above, but also from the side, you can turn an ordinary fence into a real work of art. Screens, walls of gazebos, arches are also decorated, the main thing is that your flower garden at the base has a vertically oriented structure.

Flower bed-picture

A self-made vertical flower bed can be used not only in landscape design, but also to decorate an apartment or house. Find boxes that are the right size and shape and fill them with earth. Fasten the mesh lattice on top with metal corners and plant climbing plants or succulents in a simple pattern.

Flower beds-umbrellas

How to make a vertical flowerbed umbrella with your own hands? It couldn't be easier: you need wire frame, at the top of which is fixed flower pot... In this case, fast-growing and ampelous plants are suitable: long-leaved nasturtium or lobelia, for example. You can use a rigid frame or a basket on a stand in which the pot is installed.

Flowerbed made of PVC pipes

Such a vertical flower bed with your own hands is done quite simply and quickly. You will need PVC pipes large diameter pipes, small diameter irrigation pipes, a hole punching tool and of course your skilled hands. Such designs look great not only on a stand, but also attached to the wall.

Flower cascade

Most often, such vertical flower beds with their own hands are built from flower pots different colors and different sizes, fastening them together for stability with pegs. Original flower beds can be made using a regular hose. Install a pole or other support of any shape. For this purpose, an incompletely cut trunk of a dead tree is quite suitable.

Take a large diameter hose, pass a thin tube with holes inside. After that, fill the hose with soil and twist it around the base. In the upper part of it, make holes where you plant the plants.

Wall flower beds

This is a very spectacular type of flower beds. Self-made flower beds (you can see their photos in the review) can become not just an original element of landscaping, but a true work of floristry. Phyto-paintings and phyto-walls are rightfully considered the most original ways of decorating a summer cottage. Such flower beds will help to close any unsightly structure, can be used as decoration for the interior of rooms.

Flower beds for petunias

And now let's dwell a little more on vertical flower beds for petunias. It is not difficult to make them with your own hands, but the result of such work is almost always amazing. Before talking about the design, I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the result of your work will largely depend on the correctly selected seedlings. When purchasing it, it is necessary to pay attention to such characteristics of the plant as the abundance of flowering and resistance to diseases, resistance to the negative effects of the external environment.

  • Supertunia Silver - delicately lavender flowers.
  • Blue Spark Cascadia - purple flowers.
  • Lavender Storm - very large, pale pink flowers.
  • Prism Sunshine - Lemon.
  • Pretty Much Picasso is an unusual and not yet very common variety combining pink, purple and green color as well as silvery leaves.

Making a flower bed

Consider what kind of vertical flower beds for petunias with their own hands everyone can make. If you paid attention, containers for such structures appeared on sale in specialized stores for a long time. If you follow this simplest path, then all you need to do is choose containers that are suitable in size and color.

From metal mesh make a frame and insert a cylindrical pot of the required diameter into it. Inside, the frame is covered with agrofilm and carefully fixed. Before you pour the substrate, a hose with holes for irrigation from the inside is inserted into the frame. Then cover the structure with soil. Water the soil, let it settle completely and add almost to the top of the pot. After that, you can plant the plants.

Flower beds from scrap materials

As you know, in our country and in neighboring countries, car tires are used for different purposes. In our case, they will help create original vertical flower beds. This eliminates the need to build a frame.

Tires of different sizes are covered with earth, set in random order and plants are planted. If you want to make this design more decorative, you can paint the tires.

From pots

On a well-fortified base, the pots are put on in a checkerboard pattern. For this, a drainage hole is used. Everything is simple enough.

From plastic bottles

All that is required of you is to collect the required number of bottles, cut them lengthwise or cut holes in them, attach to a wall or fence, fill with soil and plant the petunia.

Out of the bag

Sew the handles onto a regular bag and fill it with soil. Make cuts on one side where the plants should be planted. Previously, the bottom of the bag is covered with a film so that water does not spill during watering. Please note that the structure is quite heavy, so the base for it must be solid.

Flowerbed-ball for petunia

For hanging flower beds usually a reliable support is required that can support the weight of the structure, the soil, and the plants growing in it. There is an opinion that it is rather difficult to make them. In fact, such a vertical flower bed only looks complicated, but in reality it can be made independently from improvised means.

You will need thin and thick wire, universal soil or soil for petunias, flower seedlings (petunia surfiniya) and sphagnum moss. Having made the frame in the shape of a ball, cover it with sphagnum moss from the inside, cover it with a film overthrow so that water does not spill instantly, and then fill your flower bed with soil. Seedlings are planted in a ball at a distance of about seven centimeters from each other. After filling the balloon with plants, hang it in a well-lit area and water it abundantly.

Do not be afraid to combine flowers in tones. For example, purple flowers look great with yellow, blue and pink.

Petunia care

For vertical flower beds to be really beautiful, it is not enough just to make them and plant flowers, it is important to take proper care of them.

  • Pamper these seemingly unpretentious flowers with long-lasting fertilizing, which are rich in minerals and trace elements.
  • At the beginning of summer, plants will need complex fertilizers in liquid form, which are diluted in water for irrigation, according to the instructions on the package.
  • Self-made vertical flower beds (we posted a photo in this article) need abundant watering.
  • To prevent chlorosis and other petunia diseases, hard water is softened with fertilizers with iron.
  • Remove all faded flowers and leaves so that new buds appear sooner.
  • Pinch long shoots to the fourth bud.
  • If possible, remove the flowerbed under a canopy during heavy showers.

Plant selection

For the design of vertical flower beds, unpretentious strong plant species are suitable. It is possible to use popular vines, for example, Ipomoea, with its bright gramophones and kobei with bell flowers, flaming nasturtium and echinocystis, of course, petunias and decorative bindweed.

Advantages and disadvantages of vertical flower beds

You can talk about them endlessly, but the main advantages should be highlighted:

  • variety of design options, decorativeness;
  • saving space;
  • mobile options allow for movement;
  • tillage is reduced to a minimum: there is nothing to dig up and weed, all that remains is to water and, if necessary, trim the overgrown specimens.

The disadvantages include:

  1. A very limited amount of soil is not suitable for all plants, but for those who are satisfied with this, additional feeding will be needed.
  2. In winter, the soil can freeze, so this is not the most suitable option for perennial plants.
  3. More frequent watering is required than traditional flower beds: in containers, the soil dries out much faster, and the plants are more difficult to tolerate the heat.

Despite some disadvantages, vertical flower beds can be considered ideal solution for any site. They are able to harmoniously fit into any landscape. This is, without exaggeration, a real miracle that every gardener can create with his own hands. To do this, you will not need large financial costs and the purchase of any special materials. Everything you need can be found on your site. And seemingly completely unnecessary things will help to decorate the garden in an original way. Do not be afraid to experiment, fantasize, and your garden will change beyond recognition.

New interpretations of flower beds are a popular practice in landscaping. One of the popular trends in ornamental gardening is vertical flower beds.

Plants are planted vertically in country chair-pots, dressers with drawers, pipes, bottles and even ladies' bags. Installed near the walls of the house and fences, hung on trees, gazebos, placed along garden paths and in the rooms. • Dichondra
  • Bacopa
  • Pelargonium
  • Begonia
  • Fuchsia

How to make a vertical flower bed of petunias with your own hands?

To make a vertical flower bed of petunias, you will need 5 flower pots of different diameters with a hole in the bottom. The largest pot is placed at the base of the flower bed. Most of it is covered with moist earth. Then a wooden or metal rod is inserted, onto which pots (flowerpots) are strung in turn. Annual petunias are planted in a circle. When the plants grow, they will partially cover the pots. Watering such a flower bed is carried out in each pot as the soil dries.

Hanging flower bed-ball for petunia

The opinion about the complexity of the arrangement of an air flower bed with petunias is erroneous. The flower garden only looks like a complex structure, but in fact it can be made with your own hands from improvised means.

For the device of an air flower bed, you will need a thick and thin wire, pliers, universal soil based on peat, sphagnum moss and seedlings of the flowers themselves (petunia surfiniya or violet vitrokka).

Seedlings are planted in a ball at a distance of 7 cm from each other. Having completely filled the flowerbed with plants, hang it in a well-lit area of the garden (but not under the scorching sun) and watered abundantly.

Advice: Thinking over the colors of a vertical flower bed, do not be afraid to mix flowers by color. For example, plant yellow with purple, pink with blue.

Flowerbeds for petunia from the pipe

A large-diameter pipe, plastic or metal, can become an element of decor for a suburban area.

For manufacturing, you will need one large (external) pipe with holes for planting plants and one small (internal) pipe with holes for water to exit during watering. Caps are placed on the bottom of both pipes.

The smaller structure is placed inside the outer tube after the latter has been securely fixed in an upright position. A ten-centimeter layer of gravel is poured into the formed gap between the pipes for drainage. Fill with earth from above.

The final stage of creating a flower bed from a pipe is planting seedlings.

Flowerbed made of mesh-netting

An inexpensive way to decorate your backyard area suburban area- make a vertical flower garden out of a chain-link mesh. For a simple design, you will need: a metal mesh with large cells, wire, a large flowerpot, geotextiles, seedlings.

A flowerpot will be responsible for the stability of the flower bed, into which the mesh will be inserted. The wire is needed in order to fix the shape of the cylinder and to fix the geotextile fabric.

  • The resulting "tower" is filled with soil with a small addition of perlite sand.
  • Make holes for the plants.
  • Flowers are planted in a flower bed.

Beautiful flower bed from improvised means

If you have a free piece of land and scrap materials of any origin, you just need an idea for a flower bed. For beginners, it is better to start by creating summer vertically oriented flower beds - there is a greater choice of plants.

Plastic and metal barrels, car tires and disks are used for arranging flower beds when they do not want to buy flower containers in the store and when they want to make an original flower bed.

Flowerbeds on the walls - paintings from natural flowers

One of the techniques of vertical gardening is "green walls" of plants. Like other types of creativity, "painting" with flowers is a fun process. For a better perception of the flower garden, you need a calm, neutral background.

Vertically oriented flower garden - perfect solution not only for decorating a summer cottage, but also to save its usable space. It is not at all difficult to create vertical flower beds with your own hands, but they look very original and beautiful, while they can cover some unsightly walls, structures and dried trees.

Features of creating vertical flower beds

Depending on the type of structure and the method of their fastening, vertical flower beds are distinguished:

terrestrial

wall-mounted

wall

suspended.

Their form and performance can be very diverse and depends only on the imagination of the creator.

Any vertical flower beds are made in approximately the same way:

the base is being prepared;

an irrigation system is being laid;

the ground is laid and, if necessary, fixed with a grid;

plants are planted.

To prevent the soil from spilling out, it is better to use hydroponics, special anti-erosion geomats, as well as ordinary plastic nets or trellises. They provide reliable fixation of soil, seeds and plant roots.

You should also take care of watering if vertical flower beds are arranged in closed space eg in a barrel or plastic bag. To do this, it is necessary to bring a hose or tube with pre-punctured holes inside the container, bring one edge into upper part structures and insert a funnel into it.

Options for ground vertical flower beds

These are the simplest and most common do-it-yourself vertical flower beds, the photos of which are most common.
You can purchase a special base for such a flower bed, create an irrigation system, fill it with soil and plant a plant. The result is a flower garden like this:

A similar flowerbed can be made from a plastic barrel by cutting triangular holes in it. For more comfortable plant growth, the lower end is not cut off, but folded down.

Another option is old car tires. They can be used in several ways:

  • cut in half and fold several pieces of tires of different diameters upside down. If you plant climbing plants, you get an excellent cascading flower garden that completely covers the base;
  • cut in half and fold in a slide several pieces of tires of the same diameter, laying bars, bricks, tiles between them to create space for plant growth, air and light access to them;
  • fold the tires in a slide, fill them with soil and make cuts on the sides.

If there are no tires, you can build a flower bed from the remains of stone or building materials.
It is not difficult to build vertical flower decorations for a summer residence on the principle of an alpine slide.

To do this, beautiful stones are laid out at the wall or fence and sprinkled with soil, into which bright annual plants undersized varieties.

Can be used for flower beds different shapes or size: insert a reinforcing bar into the ground, plant the largest pot on it, fill in the soil, the smallest on top, etc. - depending on how many pots there are and what height is required. The rod must be pre-painted with paint to prevent corrosion.

A similar design, but with a slightly different base and pots tilted in different directions.

Beautiful vertical flower beds are made from a regular hose. To create them, you need to install a pillar or any other support of an arbitrary shape (you can use a dead tree trunk that is not completely cut off). Take a large diameter hose, pass a thin tube with holes for irrigation inside. Then fill the hose with soil and wind it around the support or base. Make holes in its upper part, where to plant the plants.

Ways to create wall flower beds

Another way to decorate a summer cottage with flowers without occupying the usable space is to create wall flower beds. The options for such an arrangement can be very different. The easiest one is to plant the climbing plants and let them run along the supports stretched or installed against the wall.

You can create a special structure with shelves and install containers with flowers on it.

It is also possible not to equip the shelves, but to attach the boxes directly to the support. For this, containers are best suited, the back of which forms a right angle with the base, which will allow them to be securely fastened to the grid.

You can take an old pallet, tighten it from the inside with polyethylene, secure, install and make cutouts for flowers.

Arrangement of wall beds

Wall-mounted vertical flower beds are one of the most attractive types of such flower beds. They can become not just an element of landscaping, but a real work of floristic art.
Phyto-walls and phyto-paintings are the most original way to decorate a summer cottage, a photo of which can be seen below:

Such elements can cover some unsightly structure, and are also often used not only as a vertical flower bed, but also as decoration for the interior of rooms.

They can be fixed almost anywhere - in a gazebo, on a terrace, on a tree.

Also, phytowalls can be used as portable screens, if you attach a reliable stand to them.

Plants are planted in small solid boxes, tightened with a net on top and attached to the base. For watering, they must be removed from the wall or simply sprayed abundantly.
You can also make a modular vertical flower bed. For this, separate elements are being built, which can have a very different configuration, and when assembled, they will create a real panel.

The procedure is pretty straightforward. First, frames are prepared from wooden planks (or ready-made frames for photographs are bought), a mesh is attached to them on the reverse side, then soil is poured, covered with polyethylene on top and fixed with plywood.
For planting plants, depressions are made in the soil on front side constructions. For 15-20 days, it must be left in a horizontal position. Then we collect the panels, fixing the future "paintings" in the appropriate order, and decorate the dacha with our own hands, creating a real work of art.

It is not difficult to take care of such a masterpiece - you need to trim it sometimes and water it regularly by spraying.

Creation of suspended vertical flower beds

For suspended flower beds, in most cases, a very reliable support is required, which will be able to support the weight of the structure itself, the soil and growing plants. If there is no such support, you can create a semblance of a conical column in a planterby landing a few climbing plants... The lower the pot is lowered, the higher the "flower bed».

Recently, whole "hanging" vegetable gardens have become widespread. By their principle, you can create a flower garden. For this, special containers are now being sold, ready for planting. But since we decorate the garden plot with our own hands, we will build them ourselves.

The easiest way is to take plastic barrel and prepare it in the same way as for the terrestrial option described above. The main thing is to correctly and reliably fix it on the support, since the whole structure will have considerable weight.
Instead of a barrel, you can make a frame from a metal mesh, roll it up with a cylinder or a cone, secure it with wire, fill it with a large dense garbage bag, make holes in it and plant plants in them. Such a flower bed can be hung or set on the ground in a large flowerpot.

If we talk about universal options that are suitable for all types of vertical flower beds, one should not forget about plastic bottles... Here their practicality will be most in demand. Firstly, they are very light and small, so they can be fixed on almost any support. Secondly, from them you can create a container of any configuration by cutting a hole or cutting off an unnecessary part. If you leave only the bottom half, you can insert these pots into a specially prepared trellis.

If you make a side hole, you can simply hang them on the fence in any number, vertically or horizontally, creating a wide variety of compositions.

Plastic bottles with a cut-off bottom can be connected together by wire or glue and forming various shapes. Then fill them with soil and plant flowers. Very unusual flower beds of absolutely any shape can turn out.

Choosing flowers for a vertical flower bed

Due to the peculiarities of the structure of vertical flower beds, not all flowers are suitable for their arrangement. The most suitable are considered to be undersized and curly varieties that do not have a very developed root system and do not need a large number soil. In addition, it is these plants that will allow you to create an original and harmonious composition.

When choosing beautiful annuals for a flower bed growing vertically, you should pay attention to marigolds, petunias and lipsticks. They are ideal for these types of landings, as they create a very bright carpet that does not cover the rest of the structure.

Climbing roses, ivy, Manchurian grapes, clematis are considered the best option for climbing plants. They will allow you to create original vertical flower beds, without requiring large areas and careful maintenance.

Lawn grass also looks good in vertical plantings. In addition, it is securely anchored in the soil and can hold well even without materials at hand. For the same reason, it is recommended to plant moss. Along with the lawn, it can be a great backdrop for bright flowering annuals.

Vertical flower beds and flower beds in the country are a real miracle that you can create with your own hands. This does not require large costs and the acquisition of any special materials... Everything can be found among the available tools and seemingly unnecessary trash, harmoniously combine it and decorate with the simplest, but colorful flowers. The best assistant is your imagination and our recommendations!

Flower balloons look a bit like hanging baskets,

Flowers in the country are practically one of the most important elements landscape design on the personal plot... These beautiful plants are used to decorate flower beds, alpine slides, gardens and all kinds of other landscape elements in the country.

But besides, the main decorations using flowers are "Airy flower beds"... This is decorative decoration is a ball of flowers planted in it, using a special container in which the plants are placed.

How to make an air flower bed

Air flower balloons look a little like hanging baskets where mostly ampelous plants are planted... But for flower balls are used special metal mesh-hemispheres which have rather large cells. As for the basis for such original flower garden, then they can be purchase at any flower shop or do it yourself.

To arrange an air flower bed, you need to on the walls hemispherical meshes lay out sphagnum moss but it can be replaced with coconut fiber as well. Then, on top of it, you need to lay out a plastic wrap, this is done so that during watering the water does not flow out immediately. When this is done, the next layer should be drainage, but so that such a flower ball is not heavy, instead of stones, it is necessary to use perlite, vermiculite or expanded clay. The drainage layer should be about 1.5-2 centimeters. After that, you need to pour a little soil, about 15 centimeters and plant the first row of pre-prepared plants. To do this, small holes are made in the moss or coconut insert into which the roots of the flowers are inserted. This should be done along the first circle of the metal base. When the plants are planted in this way, you can sprinkle their roots with soil and start planting the second tier of flowers. This must be done to the very top.

In the course of growth, flowers in such airy flower garden will begin to unravel, forming incredible "caps" of greenery, covered with colorful flowers. In order for such a flower garden to have a rounded shape, it is necessary to trim it slightly throughout the entire period and, of course, monitor the moisture content of the soil. In addition, pruning is carried out not only to shape the flower ball, but it also promotes branching of the shoots. Thus, they become more magnificent and will bloom more abundantly. Therefore, when choosing a plant for an air bed, you need to pay attention to the corresponding characteristics.

Each garden area should have a flower garden. Even a small bright spot will dilute the color uniformity of garden greenery and become a source of positive emotions. In landscape design, flower beds play an important role. In one case, they can be the link between the home and the green space. In another - to become a central element around which the rest of the landscape design will be grouped garden plot.

Often the choice falls on round flower beds, their design can be very diverse and depends both on the decision of the landscape style of the garden and on the place that is given to them.

The round flower bed is a classic in garden design. Along with flower beds of other forms, it has been present in the design of the garden for more than one century. Over such a long period of its existence, it has undergone some changes, and new plants introduced into the garden culture, their various varieties and forms make it possible to make the color content of a round flower bed unique.

The choice of a place for a flower garden depends on the existing buildings and plantings. It should not destroy the existing composition, but serve as its continuation, perhaps the final touch, giving the entire appearance of the garden a finished look.

The traditional purpose of a round flower bed is ceremonial. Often it serves as a decoration for the recreation area in front of the house. Such a flower garden especially benefits from the neighborhood with a lawn. Against the background of greenery, a contrasting color spot attracts the eye.

The photo shows how much more attractive the front area near the house has become from the presence of a bright flower garden.

If there is not enough free space, and you really want to make round flower beds with your own hands, you can break several small ones by arranging them in a row or in any other order.

Scheme for creating several small round flower beds

Unusual and interesting option- to enclose a round flower bed inside a square flower garden, separating it with a gravel dump path. Feng Shui uses this form to increase energy. And the circle in this eastern practice is a symbol of perfection. Such a flower garden looks very good at the intersection of paths.

Variants of various layouts of round flower beds enclosed in a square

An important point is the size of the future garden design element. It must be correlated with the area of the site on which it will be located. In a large space, a small flower garden will be lost, and in a small one, a huge flower bed will look ridiculous. It is necessary to take into account the convenience of caring for plants. Regular weeding and feeding has not been canceled, and it will be problematic to reach the center of a large flower garden.

When choosing a place for round flower beds, you should be guided by time-tested recommendations.

Without flowers, the site looks boring and uninteresting. Correctly decorated flower beds cheer you up, because ...

Patterns of landscape design

In order to successfully make a round flower bed in the garden of a private house or in the country with your own hands, you need to take into account the following rules of landscape design.

  • The integrity of the composition.

The decoration of any garden plot should be carried out according to a well-thought-out plan. It is best to draw it on paper, marking on a scale all the existing plantings and buildings, not forgetting about the uniform style of the site design and the color harmony of both existing plants and those that are going to be planted. Only in this case the created flower garden round shape will organically fit into the surrounding landscape.

  • Plants need to be placed taking into account their growth.

The tallest are placed in the background. Medium-sized in front of them - they attract most attention, so their selection must be treated responsibly. The curb stunted plants that frame it along the edge emphasize the beauty of the flower garden and give it a finished look. The placement of flowers in a round flower garden is determined by its shape. The most tall plant planted in the center, and each next tier will be lower than the previous one.

  • Consider the architecture of the flower garden.

It can be either flat or domed, with or without a decorative fence. Inside the flower garden, there is a geometry of its own. It is related to the location of the plants. The simplest option is concentric circles, for which flowers are matched in height and color. With the right selection, such a flower bed looks quite impressive. A more complex geometric solution is also possible, for example, a Viennese flower or a repeating geometric pattern. You can divide the flowerbed into sectors. The color scheme of this layout option can be either contrasting or sustained in one color, but in different shades. An asymmetric arrangement of flowers is possible. How to make such a flower bed beautiful? Color spots from several flowers of the same species should be adjacent to ornamental greenery, while none of the plants should shade the others.

Flower bed scheme Viennese flower

An example of a set of annual flowers for its contrasting design

  1. Marigolds erect orange, varieties "Beach season". Height 80 cm.
  2. Ageratum high grade "Blue bouquet". Height 60 cm.
  3. Eldorado snapdragon with yellow flowers. Height 45 cm.
  4. Drummond's phlox is white. Height 25 cm.
  5. Tagetes thin-leaved "Ursula" with yellow-brown flowers. Height 25 cm. It is enough to plant one bush, which has the shape of a ball, completely covered with small flowers.
  6. Alyssum purple variety "Purple Queen". Height 15 cm.
  7. Ageratum of the Blue Mink variety. Height 25 cm.
  8. Alyssum is white. Height 15 cm.

All these annuals love similar growing conditions: they are not afraid of the sun, do not require daily watering and grow well on medium-fertile soils, they take root well after transplantation. Their seeds are easy to find on sale, but the seedlings will have to be pre-grown, otherwise they will bloom only in the second half of summer.

With the help of the planted flowers, you can "draw" various pictures or ornaments - everything that the florist's fantasy tells you.

When creating round flower beds in the country or in the garden of a private house, you cannot skip the planning stage so as not to transplant the plants later. Most of them do not like transplants, and some may simply not take root.

Flower garden planning

First, the plan is drawn on paper. The scale must be maintained. Therefore, it is necessary to know the exact dimensions of the future masterpiece. It is good to use colored pencils when creating the plan. This is how you can achieve optimal color scheme... Each plant should be marked on the plan. Planting too rarely is not worth it - the effect of a carpet from plants will not work. When planting perennials, you must not forget that over time, the bushes grow.

Plant selection

It is important to immediately decide on the range of future plantings. There can be many options. In order not to get confused in them, they decide whether the set of plants will be perennial or will have to be updated annually. What flowers to plant, each owner of a summer cottage decides on his own based on his preferences and capabilities. But it can be difficult for a novice florist to make a choice, since the name of the flowers may not mean anything to them. In this case, it is better to opt for annuals, since most of them are unpretentious and easy to grow. They have another indisputable advantage: grown as seedlings, they start flowering early, which usually continues throughout the season. With perennials, continuous flowering is much more difficult to achieve.

How to do it right? It is necessary to draw up a flowering schedule for the future inhabitants of the flower garden.

  • Early flowering: Bulbous and other primroses are the first to meet the season. They will be replaced by subulate phlox, daisies, pansies, dicentra.
  • In late spring - early summer, milk-flowered peonies, bearded irises, Matrona's nocturnal, oriental poppy, doronicum, brunner, aquilegia, astilba, swimsuit will bloom.
  • Pleasing to the eye most of the summer different kinds bells, lilies, daisies, daylilies, delphiniums, aconites, perennial carnations, centranthus, yarrows.
  • In the second half of summer, phloxes, dahlias, gladioli, catnip, monarda, some types of anemones, eustoma join the floral ensemble, you can learn more about the cultivation of which.
  • In late summer and autumn, stonecrops, perennial asters, rudbeckia, chrysanthemums will delight with their flowering.

It is good if various cereals are present in the flower garden, decorative throughout the season.

A huge selection of plants will make the round flower bed always blooming. The main criterion for the selection of plants is similar requirements for illumination, water regime, acidity and soil fertility. And the place where the plants will be planted must meet these requirements.

Work on the creation of a flower garden of a round shape

When the plants are selected, and the plan is ready, they begin to implement it on the ground. To make a round flower bed, you need to put a peg in its center and tie a rope to it, the length of which is equal to the radius of the future flower garden. A complete rotation of the rope around the axis will mark its perimeter.

Before planting plants, you need to carefully prepare the soil.

Soil preparation

After removing the garbage, the sod layer is removed, the earth is dug up, completely removing all, even the smallest, roots of weeds. This operation is especially important if the flower garden is planned to be planted with perennials. Even a small root of wheatgrass can sprout very quickly and drown out cultivated plants. It is very difficult to clear an already planted flower garden from it without damaging the roots of the flowers. If the level groundwater high, a drainage layer of small pebbles is required.

It is necessary to determine the acidity of the soil. Most gardeners love neutral or slightly acidic soil. Exceptions that love more acidic soil are conifers, hydrangeas, azaleas and rhododendrons, but they are infrequent guests in flower beds.

The easiest way is to analyze it in an agrochemical laboratory. But this is not available to everyone. There is an easier way: you need to take a closer look at the composition of the weed. If most of it is wheatgrass, then the soil is neutral, the predominance of woodlice, field horsetail, small sorrel, plantain, field violet indicates its high acidity. When digging up the earth, you will have to add ash, which serves not only as a deoxidizer, but is also a good fertilizer containing potassium and many trace elements.

A complete mineral fertilizer... But it is better not to bring fresh manure - most of the inhabitants of the flower garden cannot stand it. The best organic matter is humus and garden compost. Sometimes it is necessary to improve the structure of the soil. Sand is added to clay, and to sandy clay. By adding earth, they give the flowerbed a convex shape.

Filling the flower garden

Plants can be planted when the ground has settled, after about two weeks. It is best to do this starting from the center. There are planting norms for one square meter for plants of different heights, which are convenient to guide.

  • Tall plants - 4 pcs.
  • Medium height - 6 pcs.
  • Low - 8 pcs.
  • Groundcover - 9 pcs.

Plants of the same species are planted in groups of at least five (for large at least three) in order to create a color spot and eliminate excessive variegation.

A special case is conifers and small shrubs: in most cases one specimen is enough. But there is also an exception. It is very interesting to use either begonias, combining with or without conifers. In the first case, you can choose, for example, bright begonias of the same color, but in different shades, as in the photo. If conifers not provided, roses or begonias of calmer colors, better pastel shades, are appropriate.

The final touch is the fence

It will give the flower gardens a finished look, allow the beauty of the planted plants to be manifested even more. The fence also has one more important function - it will not allow weeds to penetrate from the lawn into the flower garden. There are many different plastic fences on sale. But the stone border looks much more organic and beautiful. It can be from both natural stone, and consist of bricks, stone blocks of small size or paving slabs... Such a fence is also the most durable.

Creating a border of stones with your own hands is a rather laborious, but quite doable task. Stones and bricks can be laid with or without cement mortar. In the latter case, the support will be held by its own gravity. The main disadvantage of such a fence is the possibility of overgrowing with weeds due to falling into the gaps between the stones of the earth. But you can easily change the geometry of the border.

How to make a stone border with your own hands

  1. Dig a trench around the perimeter of the flower bed with a width equal to the size of the largest stone, and 20 cm deep.
  2. Geotextiles are laid and sand is poured in a layer of 5 cm. The sand is moistened and compacted.
  3. If the curb is made of concrete, then formwork is required, where the mortar is poured. The stones are simply stacked beautifully. If necessary, they are fastened with cement mortar. A fence is also made of bricks or small concrete blocks.

In order to create a round flower bed with your own hands, you need to make a lot of effort. But the result obtained will warm the author's heart for a long time with its beauty and originality.
