There is a prize in RuNet called "Runet Award". Conducted since 2004. There are many nominations, but the main one is "popular vote", where any project related to the Internet and Russia can go. Last year, the browser-based fantasy game Legend: Legacy of the Dragons won this category, and the victory was literally torn out on the last day of voting for another similar project, “Heroes of War and Money”. Even then, the “Heroes” community was indignant: how in just one day did “Legend” not only overcome the gap of 100,000 votes, but also beat “Heroes” by half a hundred thousand? But the outrage did not in the least affect the presentation of awards at a lavish event in Moscow's Oktyabr cinema.
In the 2011 award, the same game, “Legend,” was initially in the lead. In second place is again "Heroes", in third - "World of Tanks". And it was obvious to almost everyone. that "World of Tanks", a project of a completely different class, is in third place solely because the project management does not consider it necessary to compete for the prize. Complete absence of advertising calls for voting, small promised profit. But even such neglect of the prize gave the project third place.
The voting took place at a difficult time in the “tanks”: a very late patch, overloaded with an influx of players (more than 200,000 online!), the only server in the ru-zone...
But suddenly World of Tanks suddenly became more active in voting, drawing attention to the award. This was probably directly related to the release of the long-awaited patch to public testing, as well as to the solution to server stability problems. And here the administration of the event finally parted with common sense, morality and ethics. The owner of the game "Legend: Legacy of Dragons", "Mail-ru" (also a sponsor of the award!) begins a shameless "cheating" of votes on all fronts. They use advertising that directly violates the voting rules, “stimulating” the players who voted in the game. The organizing committee of the competition “covers up” all this disgrace. The apotheosis of everything was the appearance of bots: the dynamics of votes cast for “Legend” began to correspond to the dynamics of voting for “World of Tanks”, and the number of votes constantly exceeded those cast for “tanks”!
Naturally, such an obvious forgery could not go unnoticed, and a wave of indignation arose in the RuNet at the uncleanliness of the organizing committee. An article appeared on Habrahabr "Runet Award: who is stronger, a tank or a rogue?", in which the statistics of votes were analyzed and an unambiguous conclusion was made both about the “cheating” of the “Legends” votes and about the covering of this by the organizing committee. But here’s the problem: “Mail-ru” is one of the shareholders of “habrakhabr”, and the article was promptly hidden. The link is her repost.
Further more. As part of the advertising campaign in support of “Legend,” the “Games-mail-ru” division publishes the enthusiastic news “One and a half million Internet users voted for “Legend: Legacy of Dragons.” Don’t be surprised that there is nothing on the link: the news was instantly downvoted by angry users, and most of the comments on it were very impartial. At first, Mail-ru moderators intensively cleaned up the reviews, but it was difficult to stop the wave of popular discontent. And the article turned out to be stupidly cut. Fortunately, my article was open, and I took very eloquent screenshots, as well as saved the article page using the browser.
